Today, 12 May, is International Nurses Day and also Florence Nightingale’s birthday. To mark this occasion we’re sharing one of our favourite nursing photographs, former Orange Base Hospital Matron Agnes Fields, Matron Elizabeth Kerr and Matron Edna Goldstone taken in 1988. What changes these ladies would have seen in their working lives.

If you’d like to read more about the history of medicine in Orange we’d refer you to In sickness and in health; how medicine shaped Orange’s history by Elisabeth Edwards.
